June is LGBTQ Pride Month 🌈

Happy LGBTQ Pride Month! Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.The purpose of Pride Month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. LGBTQ+ Source Provides scholarly and popular LGBT publications in full text, plus historically important primary sources, including monographs, magazines and newspapers. It also includes a specialized LGBT thesaurus containing thousands of terms. Gale eBooks (formerly Gale Virtual Reference Library) Online collection of general and subject-specific encyclopedias on all major topic areas. Search for “Stonewall Uprising” or “Stonewall Riots” to get an overview of the history. You can also search for “LGBTQ Community” and get lots of results on issues, experiences, and activism within the community. Kanopy Contains more than 18,000 streaming videos, including films from the Criterion Collection, festival circuit documentaries, and TV series. Kanopy (and not ACC) requires that you create a free account before accessing. If you browse under Social Sciences there is a collection of great LGBT films and documentaries to watch. Looking for some books from the library? Even though our physical spaces are closed, we have tons of online ebooks in our collection for you to read.
